Congratulations to Writtle School of Design who have just been ranked 10th in the 2010 Guardian University Guide's top design schools.

The Guardian University Guide offers advice to students wishing to start university for the 2010-11 academic year and includes league tables for a range of full-time and undergraduate courses at higher education institutions in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

This is recognition for a long established commitment by the lecturers and staff to include digital design processes in their teaching and since 1998 KeySCAPE has been an important piece in the jigsaw. Graham Thompstone, Principal Lecturer CAD at Writtle College said:

"KeySCAPE plays an important part in our teaching of digital design to Landscape and Garden Design students. This teaching exposes the students to a wide range of industry standard design software used in the commercial world. It offers seamless compatibility with AutoCAD and our surveying software and allows students to develop options and present their designs to a high level in both 2D and 3D. As KeySCAPE and AutoCAD are available as free software to students this offers them the opportunities to develop their CAD skills out of studio time"

KeySCAPE is developed in the UK by Key Systems and they have provided valuable to support to Writtle since they purchased KeySCAPE in 1998. Lecturers have been able to attended free workshops and seminars and Key Systems staff frequently visit the college to demonstrate the commercial use of the software and to make students aware of the latest technologies.

Writtle College is one of the longest established specialist Colleges in the UK, and offers students the opportunity to study a range of environmental programmes which are accredited by the University of Essex - one of the UK's top ten for research. The School of Design was founded in 2006 and is one of the Landscape Institutes newest accredited schools.
